Summary: The Human Genome Project has succeeded in the unraveling of the human genome into discernable parts. Many scientists hope to use this newfound knowledge to make new types of medication designed to work effectively with a specific individuals genetic makeup. Promising developments are being made in this field. A darker side to the exponentially growing field of genetics does exist, however. The Eugenis Records Office, which operated from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories in New York, collected a vast ammount of information on various human traits in the "Trait Book" during its 34 years of operation (1910 - 1944). This knowledge was used by eugenesists around the Unted States to further their studies on the perfection of the human race through eugenics policies. Today, the Human Genome Project is in effect carrying on what the Eugenics Records Office could only dream of, as it identifies the very genes for specific human traits. "Designer babies", created in a lab and tweaked to perfection, are envisioned by many scientists as being a product of the genetics revolution.
