DOJ Colludes with Media Matters to Spin Fast & Furious

By Mary Chastain | Brietbart | Sept. 18, 2012

Matthew Boyle at The Daily Caller published 69 pages of emails between Media Matters for America and Department of Justice spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler about Operation Fast and Furious.

Fast and Furious was a government-run gun walking scheme that put over 2,000 guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. The guns are linked to the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and 300+ Mexican citizens. Thousands are still missing.

These emails prove coordination between MMfA and the DOJ to spin stories. The DOJ was using MMfA as their own personal publicist and MMfA was spreading false information. To make it worse, MMfA is a tax exempt company that is backed by George Soros.

Among those named in the emails are Mr. Boyle, Katie Pavlich at Townhall, Sharyl Attkisson at CBS News, NRA News, Mike Vanderboegh (one of the original bloggers who broke the story), FOX News and Breitbart News.

In one of the more shocking emails, Ms. Schmaler emailed Matt Gertz at MMfA and suggested an attack piece on Tea Party Nation Founder Judson Phillips. She tells Mr. Gertz what Mr. Phillips said was completely false, because President Bush's operations Wide Receiver and Hernandez “put this to a lie.” There’s only one problem with that statement. Mr. Phillips was only talking about Fast and Furious. There was nothing false in his appearance on FOX News. He simply said it must be investigated and it was a partisan program.

Later that day Chris Brown wrote a piece calling Mr. Phillips a “right-wing extremist.” He tried to prove Mr. Phillips wrong that Fast & Furious had anything to do with gun control, which Ms. Attkisson proved to be correct on December 7, 2011. That was the only part of Mr. Brown’s piece that had anything to do with Mr. Phillips’ appearance. The rest of it was a smear job on him, pointing out past statements.

On March 19, MMfA was quick to come to the defense of Attorney General Eric Holder after Breitbart News produced a video from of him in 1995 in which he talks about stricter gun control laws. Despite the overwhelming evidence, MMfA didn’t take too kindly with us using the video to connect it to Fast & Furious. Mr. Gertz was eager to send both articles to Ms. Schmaler.

Will this be enough to pull MMfA's tax exempt status?
