We don’t usually frequent Motels; however, having crossed the states of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona in only three days, we were beginning to smell like a pair of cowboy’s armpits …and taking a shower and waking up in a bed instead of the back of a Dodge Nitro seemed like a good idea.

And I don’t usually watch television, but I had submitted to its evil powers tonight and put myself through two mind numbing hours of Clinton/Obama, American Idol and Gordon Ramsay’s Hells Kitchen. I began to ask myself why? Why? Why? Why? Why did I do it? My eyes hurt, my ears hurt and now my brain is incapable of any kind rational thought, I find myself completely subdued, which is mission accomplished for the T.V.

Then the answer came, the whole reason I’d just pickled my brain became clear to me.

As I was ghost walking through the late night news, a short clip about U.F.O sightings over Phoenix the previous night came on. I remembered seeing footage of the 1997 sightings over Phoenix, when thousands of people including the Governor claim to have witnessed the unknown objects hovering in the skies, and immediately my brain kicked into gear. It was the usual mainstream media jibber jabber where the news team laughed about it and they concluded with a very sketchy explanation that it was in fact Chinese Lanterns that were responsible and they were sure of this because an unnamed source said he saw his neighbor lighting them but was unwilling to comment further. Chinese lanterns? Sounds more like Chinese whispers to me.

Anyhow, lets get back on track here, the reason this story made me jump up and start running around the room yelling is that we were there that night in Phoenix, and we missed it! We never saw the U.F.O, but I’m sure something was going on in the sky, and I’m certain there’s something fishy about the news story.

We were in the Wal-mart parking lot approx 30 miles west of Phoenix laid in the back of the Nitro looking up at the stars from around 9.30 to midnight. I kept hearing and seeing military aircraft in the sky and was making a big fuss about it to Caitlin. They were moving really fast, flying in pairs or individually. I would guess they were flying west.

Now, I don’t know the area and I don’t know where the air force bases are in the area. Maybe the jets were just on exercise. But when I heard about the U.F.O sightings it seemed coincidental, but I don’t believe in coincidences.

…it seems strange that the Luke Force air base says they didn’t have any planes in the sky when I saw at least 9 planes.

Anyway, this is just my two cents as a witness in the relative area.
